For the Premier League Girls Cup we hosted six local teams to take part in fixtures and celebrate the growing world of Women’s Football.
There was non stop action on our Community Pitch as local primary schools brought their girls teams down to The Croud Meadow for a morning of 8v8 matches! The teams included, Oakmeadow Primary, St Winifrides, Baschurch Primary, Myddle Primary, St Andrews, and St Georges, all from Shrewsbury or the surrounding areas. All the teams showcased incredible teamwork even with their opposing teams, sharing goalkeeper gloves with each other as well as their love for football!
We also had a very special visit from Shrewsbury Town Women’s Team players, Phoebe Carter and Toni Kingscott, who cheered the teams on from the sidelines, and chatted with players after the games. There were a few burning questions that the young players had, such as “who would you play for if you didn’t play for Shrewsbury?” and “which sweets are your favourite?” (fruit pastilles was the answer to that last one!).
Despite the gloomy and wet weather, all the teams had a great time and their positive spirits brightened up the day!
