From a Playground Leader to Diabetes UK Fundraiser, Evelyn’s story is one of determination and inspiration for not just her classmates but the community as a whole.
Living with type 1 diabetes, Evelyn once approached physical activity with hesitation, unsure of how it would affect her. However, with the support of her family, friends and school she has been able to gain the confidence to get involved with sports. Her confidence continued to grow when she joined the Playground Stars programme, transforming her into a confident and passionate leader, using sport to bring her school community together.
As a Playground Leader, Evelyn has played a key role in creating an inclusive and engaging environment at playtimes. She has organised different sporting activities, designed her own star player stickers, and ensured that every child has the opportunity to participate in games. Her leadership was recognised at the Playground Stars conference, where she proudly showcased her ideas at the stadium.
Now, Evelyn is taking on an even bigger challenge—running a half marathon to raise funds for Diabetes UK. Motivated by her own experiences, she is determined to make a difference for others living with diabetes by raising awareness and raising vital funds. Her commitment to both sport and fundraising embodies the values of leadership, perseverance, and community spirit that she showcases as a Playground Leader.
During each break time she has been getting closer and closer to her half marathon goal, with her classmates joining her in the challenge. To mark her final lap she will be completing the final stretch during half time at Shrewsbury Town’s home game on the 15th March against Burton Albion. Please join us in cheering her on as she completes this incredible achievement!
