Summer 2018 has proved to be a success for everyone at Shrewsbury Town in the Community, with lots going on.

Shrewsbury Town’s Soccer Schools have continued to grow, with both the Shrewsbury and Ludlow regional hubs delivering a number of courses, including new venues, girls only and goalkeeper specific soccer schools.

Those attending the courses have won numerous prizes, including signed squad photos, player cards, mascot places and golden tickets. They have also been treated to surprise visits from Shrewsbury Town stars including Fejiri Okenabirhie, Lenell John-Lewis and Ryan Haynes, with players involved in coaching, question and answer sessions, and protecting the goals during their end of day tournament.

On the back of this summers success, Shrewsbury Town in the Community are set to announce plans for their autumn soccer schools.

Shrewsbury Town have also launched their new Advanced Development Centre in Prees, enabling young footballers from all over Shropshire to gain access to one of the three elite coaching centres, which are now based in Shrewsbury, Ludlow and Prees.

Those attending the Advanced Development Centre during the 2017/18 season have also seen success heading into the 2018/19 season, with players being given the opportunity to impress on trial for Shrewsbury Town’s academy at a range of ages.

In education, Shrewsbury Town’s BTEC programme has gone from strength to strength over the summer, with two sides being registered for fixtures during the 2018/19 season, as well as competing with some of the midlands top sides during including West Bromwich Albion, Derby County and more.

The BTEC programme has also seen several second year students pass their qualification and join the foundation degree programme, enabling the students to gain a university qualification whilst studying and coaching at Shrewsbury Town in the Community.

Several potential new first year students also saw changes to their personal development over the summer, as they embarked on a newly formed bespoke NCS programme, which saw 14 potential students enjoy residential trips to Staffordshire-based activity centres and Walford College. During this time they also had the experience of visiting and training at the England national sides’ headquarters at St Georges Park.

Away from football, the continuously growing National Citizen Service (NCS) programme has grown again, with over 400 young people being taken away on the NCS programme, featuring residential phases at PGL Liddington, near Swindon, and Walford College, on the outskirts of Shrewsbury.

After their 2 residential phases, each wave then spent two weeks raising funds and awareness for different charities. With the first three waves of five completed, the young people involved have raised over £20,000 for a number of charities, some who they may have only learnt about during the four weeks they spent on their NCS journey, but each team have raised the funds with a story to tell.
