6 cyclists representing Shrewsbury Town in the Community took on the challenge of riding the 108-mile journey to Blackpool, via an overnight stop in Runcorn, for Shrewsbury Town’s final away game of the standard League One season.

Setting off from the Montgomery Waters Meadow on the Friday morning, the team of 6 cyclists along with the support vehicles braved the heavy rain and poor visibility to complete the first part of their journey, reaching Runcorn by early evening for well deserved rest and recuperation ahead of the second day of the challenge.

Reaching Blackpool during the early stages of the Saturday afternoon, the cyclists were met by Shrewsbury Town supporters who had made their way up north for the League One encounter. Donations were collected before everyone settled in to watch the 1-1 draw.

Mark Bull, who took part in the event, said

“Pedal2Pool was a fantastic event that Shrewsbury Town in the Community offered to the public to take part in.”

“It was a real challenge, with day 1 being a tough test with the weather but everyone pulled together and showed great teamwork to get us through to Runcorn.

“Day 2 was an easier challenge with the sun helping us on our way, we had a great reception from Shrewsbury Town fans when we got to Blackpool.

“Hopefully the event has raised some great funds for Shrewsbury Town in the Community to support the projects that are run across Shropshire.”

Shrewsbury Town in the Community would like to extend their gratitude once again to Trek Cycles in Shrewsbury for their support in the lead up and during the event, to the Shrewsbury Town Official Supporters Club for bringing back those who participated in the event, and finally to the 6 cyclists who between them have raised over £2,000 for the charity.
