Shrewsbury Town in the Community have held a number of fundraising events of recent, raising over £3,000 to help continue the work that coaches do within the community on a range of programmes.
First up was the annual snowdon event, which saw 5 volunteers pack their rucksacks and take on the “Adventurous Ewe Snowdon Challenge”.
After an overnight stay and a hearty breakfast in the town of Llanberis the team set out, starting their adventure with a 17km cycle along the quiet Welsh country roads passing through the Snowdonia’s slate quarry’s. After a tough cycle the team stopped to collect their lunch, swap their bikes for boots and started the 7km assent of Snowdon via the Ranger Path, occasionally stopping to enjoy the view as they made it to the summit for a well-deserved lunch. Heading back down Snowdon after lunch, those undertaking the challenge went onto the final part – a 4km canoe across Llyn Padarn lake to the finish line.
Employee of Shrewsbury Town in the Community Sian Jones who undertook the challenge said – “the event was both physically and mentally demanding but was great fun and I can’t wait to take part again next year.”

The team totals saw Shropshire Chamber of Commerce come out winners, closely followed by 2017’s winners Ed Tomkiss Brickwork Ltd & HP Carpentry & Joinery, with third place going to the Gilmour Allstars.
The day concluded with lunch, an auction and raffle helping to raise additional funds for the charity. Prizes included; experience days, BWM hire and a weekend of golf at Celtic Manor.
