On Saturday 20th January, Shrewsbury Town in the Community invited participants from their after school club programmes to take part in a Community Sports Celebration event, showcasing their skills learnt from the sessions.

The event started with the participants being given the opportunity to take part in a football tournament on the community pitch, before participating in the first part of the skills challenge prior to Shrewsbury Town’s league one clash with Doncaster Rovers.

The winners of the skills challenge, Sam Pike from Condover Primary School and William Neil from Coleham Primary School, were then given the opportunity to take part in the skills final on the Montgomery Waters Meadow pitch at half time of Shrewsbury’s home game.

The skills challenge that the half time final consisted of was a Shooting Time Trial, which tested the players accuracy and speed from different angles. The winner of this challenge, with a time of 8 seconds, was William Neil from Coleham Primary School.

Shrewsbury Town in the Community’s Schools Co-ordinator, Alex Jones, said “I would just like to thank the parents and guardians for bringing those involved to this event. It was a great showcase of our after schools club participants, who were selected from a wide range of potential players by Shrewsbury Town in the Community coaches due to their positive attitude and commitment to the programme.”
