On Friday 21st June Shrewsbury Town in the Community’s Annual Shrewsbury Golf Day raised £2,735 to help fund projects across Shropshire. The event took place at Shrewsbury Golf Club where 14 teams played out a round of Texas Scramble Style golf with a range of prizes on offer for various golfing feats.

Shrewsbury Town in the Community are grateful once more to Nick Jones Wealth Planning for sponsoring the event which has helped us to raise funds for our numerous projects across Shropshire to help engage and inspire the local community. The money raised will be invested into a range of our projects such as Head’s UpShrewsAbility, and our work in local schools.

After a mostly rainy week we were lucky to have perfect weather on the day which made for a great day of golf for all our teams.

Our first competition took place on Hole 9 for the longest drive which was won by Chris Roberts who gained the fantastic prize of a MINI driving experience for the weekend from Rybrook Shrewsbury.

We also held a longest drive competition for Over 50s, won by Mark Hallum which earned him tickets to Monmore Green Racetrack.

The ‘Nearest to the Pin’ challenge was won by Tim Corfield who earned himself a round of golf for four at Oswestry Golf Club.

Throughout the day we also ran the Pink Ball challenge sponsored by Reech Media. Each team was given a numbered pink ball which had to be played by at least one player on each hole. If a team was able to avoid losing the ball it was placed into the draw at the end of the round with a cash prize being awarded to the team who’s ball had been picked. Some teams had varying different tactics for this challenge, with some very carefully micromanaging their pink ball whereas another team managed to lose it on only their third hole. Lindsay and friends from the Shropshire Charity Golf Society were the lucky winners showing their patient strategy to be most effective.

After all teams had completed the course they returned to the clubhouse for lunch and waited eagerly for the results to be announced. In 3rd place were last year’s winners, Nick Jones Wealth Planning, 2nd place went to the Jamie Edwards and the Shrewsbury Town in the Community team, and this years winners were Dave Gilmour & Friends  who were presented with the prestigious trophy.

Once the presentations were done, we finished the day off by auctioning off some fantastic prizes, including the opportunity to have lunch at the Shrewsbury Town training ground with manager, Sam Ricketts.

Nick Jones was delighted with how the event went.

“We’re proud to have sponsored this Charity Golf Day for the 3rd year running. The course was in fantastic condition and the greens were of a particularly high standard. Players purchased raffle tickets generously and enthusiastically bid for a number of interesting auction lots. To have helped  raise such a great total whilst having fun a brilliant feeling. We are looking forward to next year already!”
