Taking part in our employability programmes has given Brandon the opportunity to develop new skills and prepare him for the future.
Read StoryFor many, our hub sessions offer a place to socialise, stay active, and find a sense of purpose—and for our hub volunteer, Mark, it’s no different.
Mark’s journey with Shrewsbury Town Foundation began with a simple visit to his doctor, where he learned about the foundation’s walking football group and the Exercise on Referral scheme.
After joining the programme as a participant, Mark found a welcoming community that sparked a desire to give back. Becoming a volunteer, he says, was his way of saying “thank you” for the positive experiences he had as part of the group.
Mark’s favorite part of the sessions is the chance to play football while feeling part of a team. He values the opportunity to meet new people, build connections, and learn new skills—both on and off the pitch.
Volunteering has helped him grow personally, boosting his confidence and easing his stammer. The social interaction at the foundation has made a real difference, allowing him to connect more easily with others and gain new perspectives.
For Mark, volunteering isn’t just about helping out; it’s a chance to support the foundation’s mission and be there for others.
He knows that having a volunteer around provides reassurance to participants who may need someone to talk to or rely on when staff are busy.
Mark encourages anyone interested in volunteering to speak with a staff member and consider giving it a try.
He assures them there’s “nothing to lose and everything to gain” by joining this rewarding experience.
Volunteering, he believes, is a meaningful way to contribute and make a positive impact at Shrewsbury Town Foundation.
We want to provide opportunities to help individuals achieve their goals and realise their potential, but we can only do this with your support.
