Read StoryThrough Make Sport Work, participants can take part in a 6-week programme which combines physical activity and classroom learning to boost confidence, mental and self-discipline with a focus on supporting participants to move closer towards paid employment.
Following a conversation with his Job Centre work coach, Brandon was referred to the programme and signed up in May 2024.
At the start of the programme, Brandon was lacking confidence, motivation and direction and had struggled to take positive next steps. He had limited work experience and wanted to gain new employment which would give him a reliable income and allow him time and experience to further his music and performance skills.
Completing the course not only gave him focus on his work search; it allowed him to gain valuable qualifications to support his future employment.
Once the course finished, Brandon moved across to the Youth Hub and has now spent approximately 50 hours with our team of Youth Employability Coaches, either on a 1:2:1 basis or as part of our group skills days.
He has been further supported to ensure his CV is in the best shape possible for job-searching. Brandon has seen a great improvement in his own confidence and mental health and has also noticed the improvement in his personal life finding romance!
“Definitely give it a go” said Brandon, “It’s helped me out a lot, and I’m glad I chose to go on the course”
Brandon has recently interviewed for a new job role and has been invited back for a second interview this week. He has also signed up for a Music Performance course in college. Watch this space to see Brandon performing in and around Shropshire!
