On Friday afternoon Lenny the Lion made a special trip to Condover CE Primary School to present Mr. Landers with our ‘Teacher of the Year’ award on his last day at the school.
Mr Landers was highlighted as being deserving of the award after the great amount of effort he has put into helping deliver the Premier League Primary Stars project within his school over the last academic year. He was presented with the certificate along with a signed Shrewsbury Town home shirt as a thank you for all his hard work.
Since joining Shrewsbury Town in the Community’s Premier League Primary Stars programme 2 years ago, Condover School have taken part in almost every activity offered through the project, running numerous after-school clubs, taking part in reading and writing competitions and even sending teams to take part in tournaments played on the pitch at Montgomery Waters Meadow during our Play on the Pitch Week. Mr Landers spoke about how the delivery had particularly helped the growth of girls’ football in the school, with many girls gaining a new interest in football leading to a new lunch-time girls football club along with a team now representing the school.
“Premier League Primary stars has been outstanding for us. The Inclusive Cup especially giving the chance to those who might not normally get the opportunity to represent the school and how important that is for them at that age. The coaches have really become part of the school and it has really gotten everybody within the school on-board with developing PE delivery across the board.”
Shrewsbury Town in the Community Schools manager, John Rix said “Mr. Landers has really embraced the programme and the impact it has had across the school has been sublime. He has really helped us with delivering the project within the school and this has made a huge difference to the way PE and sport in general is now treated within the school.”
