Participants and coaches from the Youth Hub visited our Extra Time Hub earlier this week to lend and hand and speak with attendees about their careers.
The Extra Time Hub, aimed at supporting older adults through social and physical activities, welcomed the Youth Hub volunteers to assist with sessions by sharing stories and advice, while also taking part in group quizzes, walking football and a guess the squash weight competition. The collaboration between the hubs has encouraged conversations between generations, with young participants helping to set up activities, engage with older members, and offer support during the sessions.
Louiza, Youth Hub Manager, praised the opportunity: “It’s been amazing to see our Youth Hub and Extra Time Hub come together. Our youth hub participants really enjoyed chatting with the older members, and you could see the connections happening. It’s such a great way for them to learn from each other and build real, meaningful relationships across generations.”
Shrewsbury Town Foundation’s Youth Hub, which supports young people with employability skills and personal development, sees this initiative as a valuable experience for its participants. Not only does it give them the chance to develop new skills, but it also fosters empathy and social responsibility.
This partnership highlights the positive impact that bringing different generations together can have, fostering a sense of community and mutual respect while supporting the well-being of everyone involved.
