Our Shropshire 3 Peaks Challenge returns on 17th May 2020 as our teams will be cycling across the county to take on the biggest climbs in Shropshire.
The Shropshire 3 Peaks Challenge will see teams cycling across the county to make it to the top of three of Shropshire’s peaks. This year’s event is currently scheduled to take place on Sunday 17th May. Read about how our teams got on last year below.
In May 2019 Shrewsbury Town in the Community teamed up with Dyke Yaxley, Salop Leisure and Trek Bikes Shrewsbury to create the Shropshire 3 Peaks Challenge. A day long event where participants took up the challenge to scale 3 of Shropshire’s most famous peaks.
Eight teams and 35 participants took on the challenge of climbing Pontesford Hill, The Lawley and The Wrekin all to raise money for Shrewsbury Town in the Community’s projects across Shropshire.
Teams set off on their journey from the Community Football Hub at fifteen minute intervals from 9am, cycling between the peaks covering a 45 mile course. Luckily the weather held out for most of the day, meaning that participants were able to enjoy the challenge and not end up too soggy by the end! After climbing the second peak of the day they were able to refuel with some pastries kindly donated by Greggs, flapjacks donated by Evolution Foods, protein bars from Trek and stay hydrated with water provided Montgomery Waters before heading off to take on The Wrekin.
A team representing Dyke Yaxley finished with the quickest time, taking just 5 hours and 20 minutes to complete the challenge as they made it back to Salop Leisure’s ‘Love to Stay’ venue for some well- deserved drinks and pizza. All of the teams made it back without any issues and all were overjoyed with their efforts on the day knowing that they had risen to the challenge and helped to raise money for a very important cause.
Over £2,000 was raised by participants which will go directly back into funding Shrewsbury Town in the Community projects across Shropshire including Kick Cancer, ShrewsAbility and Head’s Up.
Mark Bramall, trustee for Shrewsbury Town in the Community, and a member of the Dyke Yaxley team said “we wanted to create an event in Shropshire amongst our amazing scenery that appealed to all abilities. We had walking only teams as well as those also cycled and we really appreciate the support of those teams and the volunteers who assisted on the day.
We would like to expand the event next year having learnt from our first year and would welcome the support of local businesses who can assist with the running of the event, keeping our entrants fuelled and safe”
Shrewsbury Town in the Community have a range of challenge events which are designed to be fun and allow participants to test themselves. See our events page for all the latest info.
