Ahead of Shrewsbury Town’s FA Cup 3rd round game, staff from Shrewsbury Town in the Community along with first team manager Paul Hurst invited Dougie, Reuben and his family on a stadium tour and gave him the opportunity to meet the players at Shrewsbury Town. This experience is what was described by Dougie’s family as his dream day!
Dougie, who suffers from leukemia was given the special privilege after he missed the visit during Shrewsbury Town’s visit to the hospital at Christmas. The family were able to grab multiple signatures with players and staff ahead of the game, before being given a stadium tour by Community Coach Harry Warren.
During the tour, young supporter Dougie spotted the famous face of Alan Shearer in BBC Match of the Day’s studio, alongside Ian Wright and Gary Lineker, and managed to earn himself a very special trip to the meet the trio of the presenters and capture a photograph that very few people ever get the chance to experience.
Speaking of the chance encounter, Lynsey – Dougie’s mum, said “Thank you so much to everyone at Shrewsbury Town for such a wonderful day. We never expected all of that. To make it into the BBC Match of the Day studio box was an unreal experience, it felt like walking into the TV. Thank you so much to everyone who made this happen, the boys loved every minute of it!”
