This International Women’s Day, we’re shining a spotlight on the female football pathways across Shrewsbury Town Foundation—from our youngest age groups to higher education and beyond.
We’re proud to provide a clear and structured pathway for female footballers to develop their skills, follow their passion, and thrive in an environment supported by a professional football club. Through our emerging talent centres, development centres, skills camps, and education programmes, we offer the guidance and opportunities players need to take their game to the next level—all while enjoying the sport they love.
Our Monday development centres welcome players from U9 to U16, offering a fun and supportive space to train regularly and enhance their techniques. These sessions help players grow both on and off the pitch, laying the foundation for a future in football. They also serve as a stepping stone to our more advanced programmes, including the Emerging Talent Centres and Advanced Development Centres.
These centres bridge the gap between grassroots and academy football, providing advanced coaching, regular fixtures, and a clear pathway to higher-level opportunities—such as joining Shrewsbury Town FC Women’s team. With weekly sessions in Shrewsbury and Ludlow, players receive expert training and competitive match experience to help them progress.
One standout example is Abi T, who joined our Development Centre in September 2024. Her hard work and determination saw her impress in our development centre, earning a place in our U14 Emerging Talent Centre squad. She has already made a huge impact, excelling in national qualifiers against Oxford and Northampton by scoring and assisting multiple times. This is just the beginning of Abi’s journey, and we can’t wait to see how she continues to develop!
In addition to our evening sessions, we recently launched a Girls-Only Skills Camp, running during school holidays. Our October and February camps were a huge success, with players of all ages seizing the opportunity to improve their game. The next camp will take place during the Easter holidays, with more details coming soon on our social media channels.
“At Shrewsbury Town Foundation, we are committed to creating opportunities for female footballers to develop, progress, and achieve their potential. Our structured pathway—from grassroots through to higher education and beyond—ensures that players have access to high-quality coaching, competitive fixtures, and the support they need to succeed. It’s fantastic to see so many talented young players coming through our programmes, and we’re excited to continue growing the female game in Shropshire.”
